Road Report 11-25-12

Avenue A, 8th Street to 16th Street

Pavement has been placed on Avenue A between 8th Street and 10th Street, and neighborhood traffic can now use Avenue A from just south of 8th Street through 10th Street. Until southbound traffic is opened at 8th Street, the right eastbound lane of 8th Street remains closed and left turns from westbound 8th Street are prohibited at Avenue A. The 8th Street speed limit is reduced in the construction zone as well.

The main work zone now is between 10th Street and 12th Street. Currently, Avenue A is closed completely from the southern edge of 10th Street to the northern edge of 12th Street. 12th Street remains open to through traffic and for easy access to the elementary school.

Plans call for reconstructing Avenue A in two-block increments to minimize impact on Avenue A residents. The overall project will also be timed so that work directly in front of O.C. Johnson Elementary School will take place during the school's winter break.

City of Yuma fog seal

City of Yuma crews continue applying fog seal in the upcoming week. Tuesday through Saturday, work will take place in the following locations:

• Las Casitas subdivision

• 18th Street, from 8th Avenue to 14th Avenue

• Saturday — parking lots around Yuma Municipal Court and the Yuma Police Department

Avenue 3E Bridge

Backups and delays are being reported in the vicinity of ADOT's Avenue 3E bridge expansion project, between Interstate 8 and 24th Street.

A contractor working for ADOT is improving and widening the Avenue 3E Bridge between Gila Ridge Road and 24th Street. The project is a cooperative effort between ADOT and the city of Yuma and is scheduled for completion in summer 2013.

The project includes widening the bridge over the railroad tracks from two to six lanes with a center median, new pavement and pedestrian walkways. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained during expansion of the bridge, which will be built to include three lanes each direction when complete. There will be some speed limit reductions during this project.

1st Avenue south of 24th Street

Repair work to a sewer lateral will require a two-day closure of 1st Avenue for one block south of 24th Street between Monday and Dec. 14. Local traffic should detour using Madison Avenue.

Hummingbird Drive and Avenue 10E

A secondary gate to Westwind RV and Golf Resort will be installed and pavement extended from Hummingbird Drive to Avenue 10E. Those using Avenue 10E, or the Avenue 10E alignment through desert, for through traffic will need to use Payson Drive.

Main Street Farmers Market

The Farmers Market is scheduled to return to the downtown area on Tuesdays beginning Dec. 4. Main Street will be closed from 2nd Street to 3rd Street to all vehicle traffic from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. those Tuesdays.

Christmas Village plans to affect some 1st St. traffic

With the Christmas Village returning to the Quartermaster Depot, 1st Street will see some restrictions between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Dec. 14-23. Left turns will be prohibited from eastbound 1st Street onto 2nd Avenue, and 2nd Avenue will be closed north of 1st Street.
