Road work updates

30th Street between 18th Avenue and 21st Drive

30th Street is closed between 21st Drive and 18th Avenue, or between the Main Library and La Posada apartments. Traffic flowing to and from La Posada apartments will need to enter the complex using 18th Avenue, detouring by using 27th Street between 21st Drive and 18th Avenue. Traffic to and from the Yuma County Main Library will need to use 21st Drive for all access. The closure, expected to last 2 weeks, will be due to groundwater removal work and tubing crossing the street.

Avenue A, 8th Street to 16th Street

The contractor working on the City's Avenue A reconstruction project is working between 13th Street and 15th Street. Currently, Avenue A is closed completely from 13th Street to 16th Street.

Traffic is currently open between 8th Street and 12th Street. Crews will return to these areas later in the project to lay a final course that raise Avenue A to grade level with intersecting side streets.

Plans still call for work directly in front of O.C. Johnson Elementary School to take place during the school's upcoming winter break, which begins Monday.


City of Yuma street maintenance, Dec. 17-21

City of Yuma Street Maintenance crews have concluded the fall fog seal program. During the period of Dec. 17-21, crews will perform crack seal work in the following locations:

• Araby Estates subdivision

• Castle View No. 1 subdivision

• Ocotillo No. 1 subdivision

Avenue 3E Bridge, Gila Ridge Road to 24th Street

A contractor working for ADOT is improving and widening the Avenue 3E Bridge located between Gila Ridge Road and 24th Street in Yuma. The project is a cooperative effort between ADOT and the City of Yuma and is scheduled for completion in summer 2013.

The project includes widening the bridge over the railroad tracks from two to six lanes with a center median, new pavement, and pedestrian walkways. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained during expansion of the bridge, which will be built to include three lanes each direction when complete. There will be some speed limit reductions during this project.


Avenue 3E at 40th Street

Between now and Dec. 21, a contractor will be inspecting manholes and making pavement adjustments around them in the southbound lanes of Avenue 3E south of the MCAS Main Gate. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in the southbound direction.


South Frontage Road, 9E to 10E - Southwest Gas

Six days of gas pipeline work are scheduled between now and Jan 13, 2013, on the South Frontage Road in front of Westind RV and Golf Resort. Lanes will be narrowed and speed reduced in the work zone.

Arizona Avenue at 16th Street - night work, Time Warner

Overnight work is schedule for five nights between Dec. 6 and Dec. 21 at 16th Street and Arizona Avenue to allow for an overhead crossing of fiber optic cable. This will primarily affect the right eastbound lane of 16th Street and the right southbound lane of Arizona Avenue; however, westbound 16th Street will also be restricted to one lane of through traffic at the intersection. Aerial crossings will occur over 16th Street on the west side of Arizona Avenue, and across Arizona Avenue on the north side of 20th Street.

16th Street, 14th Avenue to El Paso Real

Westbound 16th Street will be reduced to one lane between 14th Avenue and El Paso Real for one day before the end of December for gas valve maintenance work by Southwest Gas.


Christmas Village plans to impact some 1st St. traffic

With the Christmas Village returning to the Quartermaster Depot, 1st Street will see some restrictions between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Dec. 14 through Dec. 23. Left turns will be prohibited from eastbound 1st Street onto 2nd Avenue, and 2nd Avenue will be closed north of 1st Street.

Farmers Markets Tuesdays on Main St.

The Farmers Markets are scheduled to return to the downtown area on Tuesdays beginning Dec. 4. Main Street will be closed from 2nd Street to 3rd Street to all vehicle traffic from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. those Tuesdays.

Hummingbird Drive and Avenue 10E
A secondary gate to Westwind RV and Golf Resort will be installed and pavement extended from Hummingbird Drive to Avenue 10E. Those using Avenue 10E, or the Avenue 10E alignment through desert, for through traffic will need to use Payson Drive.
