Road Report 1-20-13

Maple Avenue at 16th Street

A contractor working for the city is modifying the “porkchop” median on Maple Avenue at 16th Street to incorporate a design and features more friendly to large trucks. The right eastbound lane of 16th Street is closed, resulting in likely backups during peak hours. Maple will be closed at 16th Street in both directions. Maple traffic should detour using 1st Avenue and 16th Place.

As of Thursday, the new median was largely installed. Surrounding pavement is still to come.

Avenue A, 8th Street to 16th Street

Paving and temporary lane striping will occur on Avenue A between 15th Street and 8th Street through at least Friday. Following completion of those steps, Avenue A will be opened to traffic from just south of 8th Street.

The week of Jan. 21-25, construction will occur at the intersection of Avenue A and 8th Street and the traffic signals will be turned off on Monday, Jan. 21. Lane reductions will be in place on 8th Street and traffic will be closed in both directions of Avenue A at that point. Construction duration for this area will be one week.

• Ocotillo subdivision (crack seal)

• Tamarack subdivision No. 4 and 5 (crack seal)

• Engler Estates (grinding and sweeping)

• San Marcos Villas 1-2 (grinding and sweeping)

• Palm Drive subdivision (grinding and sweeping)

Avenue 3E Bridge, Gila Ridge Road to 24th Street

A contractor working for ADOT is improving and widening the Avenue 3E Bridge located between Gila Ridge Road and 24th Street in Yuma. The project is a cooperative effort between ADOT and the city of Yuma and is scheduled for completion in summer 2013.

The project includes widening the bridge over the railroad tracks from two to six lanes with a center median, new pavement and pedestrian walkways. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained during expansion of the bridge, which will be built to include three lanes each direction when complete. There will be some speed limit reductions during this project.

An upcoming late-night closure is anticipated in early February in order to move barriers. When ADOT releases final information on this, the city will include the date(s) and times in a future edition of this report.

Farmers Markets Tuesdays on Main St.

The Farmers Markets are scheduled to return to the downtown area on Tuesdays. Main Street will be closed from 2nd Street to 3rd Street to all vehicle traffic from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. those Tuesdays.
