Go-Getters looking for sponsors
Is your child a Go-Getter?
Every year from September to April, two students from every school are selected monthly by their teachers to have their names and photos in the newspaper.
Students are selected as a Go-Getter if they're in kindergarten through eighth grades. High school students can be selected as a Goal-Setters.
“Go-Getters are students that demonstrate traits we wish all students could possess: respect, determination, persistence and a commitment to try their very best in all endeavors,” said Karen Phillips, Newspapers in Education manager at the Yuma Sun.
Of the 69 schools in its coverage area that participate in the program, the Yuma Sun is still looking for about 50 schools to be sponsored through the program.
“It's a chance for businesses and the newspaper to honor the students,” said Phillips. “It's a great way to honor students who may not have the opportunity to be honored any other way.”
The list of selected students runs in the paper the last Tuesday of every month, but readers can also visit NIE's website to view past students who have been honored as well. Click here to view the latest Go-Getters.
