Prochaska seeking 4th term as Yuma County supervisor
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Casey Prochaska says she's watched east Yuma County grow from a sleepy haven for winter visitors to a thriving community since she was elected to the Yuma County Board of Supervisors in 1993.
"My district has changed its complexion so much, from just a winter-haven area to a wonderful place for families to live," Prochaska said.
The District 3 Republican is running for her fourth term on the board this year.
Prochaska sees her district, which includes the Foothills, Wellton and beyond to the county's eastern border, as poised for even more growth.
She said she supports the Arizona Clean Fuels Yuma plan to build an oil refinery near Mohawk Valley, adding the area is a prime location for industry.
"There's a great area there for industries and perhaps manufacturing. I think that is going to be the next area for major development in western Arizona, and probably Arizona itself."
In her years on the board, she cites her major accomplishments as encouraging expansion of county infrastructure, including the new justice center and the new health department building.
But she said the project she's most proud of is the new commercial port of entry under development in San Luis. She said she saw the idea born in 1995 and is gratified to see it come to fruition.
"I think that is going to be a huge economic area for Yuma and especially the south county," she said.
If re-elected, Prochaska said, she would focus on keeping the budget stable through the state's difficult economic times, encouraging further development and responsible growth in the years to come.
"I've enjoyed the entire time that I've been on the board. Every day is a learning experience."
