Burglary suspect arrested in Winterhaven
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A suspect in a recent string of residential burglaries south of Yuma has been arrested by U.S. Marshals in Winterhaven.
According to a new release, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office had received information that 32-year-old Keith Dees was possibly in Winterhaven and shared it with the Marshals.
The Marshals went to a location Wednesday where Dees was suspected of being and arrested him at about 2:45 p.m. on a Yuma County Warrant. He will be booked into the Imperial County Jail pending extradition.
Dees, who was also listed on Yuma County's Most Wanted, has been identified as the primary suspect in a string of burglaries.
Over a period of several weeks, a number of homes were burglarized, primarily during the day while the occupants were at work. Most of the homes were located on the Mesa, south of County 14th Street in more rural areas.
Sheriff's deputies served a search warrant last month at Dees' home in the Yuma area and recovered a number of stolen items.
During that search, deputies also arrested a Yuma woman, Angelica Benford, 29, at the home on suspicion of possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, the sheriff's office said.
Also recovered near the home was a stolen vehicle that deputies say may have been used in some of the burglaries.
