Multiple entries into U.S. bring 4-year sentence
A convicted sex offender who illegally entered the United States on multiple occasions has been sentenced to four years in prison by a federal judge.
The Mexican citizen, Sergio Tambo-Canedo, 36, was detained in May by U.S. Border Patrol agents near San Luis, Ariz. After running a background check, agents discovered his criminal record and that he had previously been arrested 11 times by the Border Patrol.
In 2001, Tambo-Canedo admitted he was guilty of having had sexual relations with a minor. He was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Susan R. Bolton to 30 months in prison with credit for time served.
Last week, Tambo-Canedo entered a guilty plea for illegally re-entering the U.S. after deportation in May and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge David G. Campbell to 57 months in federal prison.
