TAX VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition is seeking volunteers to serve as tax preparers, greeters, instructors or translators for the various Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites in Yuma County.
Volunteers will work at VITA sites in Yuma, Somerton and San Luis, Ariz.
No prior training or tax experience is required. Twenty-four hours of free tax training will be provided at the Martin Luther King Center, 300 S. 13th Ave., on Oct. 27, Nov. 10 and Nov. 17. Training will be offered in both English and Spanish.
Volunteers will receive Internal Revenue Service certification upon completion of the training.

GRAND OPENING SET FOR SOMERTON YOUTH CENTER
The public is invited to next Tuesday's grand opening of the Somerton Youth and Family Wellness Center.
The grand opening begins at 9 a.m. at the site of the new youth center, 144 W. Main St., in Somerton.

DOG HANDLING CLASSES SET
The Yuma Kennel Club will offer free dog handling classes in October for people who want to enter their dogs in shows.
The classes are designed for those to compete in conformation but not obedience.
The classes will take place at Sanguinetti Park, 8th Avenue and 22nd Street, from 7 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24.
Dogs must be purebred and eligible for show, must have registration papers and cannot be spayed or neutered. For more information, call Paula, 581-3545.

BARBECUE, CHEER CLINIC SET
Kofa High School cheerleaders are sponsoring a barbecue on Friday and a cheer clinic on Saturday as fundraisers to pay for equipment, travel and other expenses related to cheerleading competitions.
The barbecue takes place 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Yuma Union High School District administration offices, 3150 S. Avenue A, prior to Kofa's varsity football game.
Dinner includes pit barbecue beef, rice, beans, salad, tortillas and drinks. Cost is $7.50 per person, and takeout is available.
The clinic for youths from 6 to 14 years of age will be offered in two sessions, 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $28 per student. Students will learn a cheer and a dance that they will get a chance to perform at halftime at Kofa's varsity game on Sept. 20.

SINGLE SENIOR POTLUCK SET
Trinity United Methodist Church is sponsoring a potluck for single seniors at the church, 3030 S. 8th Ave., on Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Reservations to attend should be made by calling Vicki, 726-7050. Membership in the church is not required to attend the potluck.
Dress code is casual and those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Beverages will be served. There is no charge to attend.
