Former Kofa teacher expected in Yuma court soon
A former Kofa High teacher accused of inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor has been released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Yuma Justice Court by the end of October.
Christopher Parrett allegedly had inappropriate sexual conduct with a male student while employed at Kofa High in 2006. Parrett, 33, left Kofa High for a teaching position at Capital High in Helena, Mont.
A local investigation was conducted, with findings presented to the Yuma County Attorney's Office. A criminal complaint charging Parrett with sexual conduct with a minor was issued, as was an arrest warrant.
Miguel Sanchez, child sex crimes/sex offenders detective for the Yuma Police Department, located Parrett in Helena, after which he was taken into custody and interviewed regarding the allegations. He was booked into jail in Helena, then released on bond and scheduled to appear in Yuma Justice Court by Oct. 31.
"He has been released on bond in Montana in order to appear in the court that issued the warrant, which is Yuma Justice Court," Yuma police spokesman Officer Clint Norred said.
"It is my understanding that he has not yet returned (to Yuma). If he does not show up, we will work in cooperation with the county attorney's office here and get another warrant issued for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution."
