The Yuma Union High School District is looking for more than 100 volunteers to help with the two-day Region III Academic Decathlon.
The competition will be taking place Friday and Saturday at Gila Ridge High School, 7150 E. 24th St. About 180 students from high schools in Cochise, Greenlee, Pima, Santa Cruz and Yuma counties will face off in subjects ranging from art, music, language and literature to mathematics, economics, science and social science.
There will also be communication tests that include essay writing, delivering a prepared and an impromptu speech in addition to an interview.
Facilitators will be needed at each of the 10 events during the competition.
“Volunteers are needed to administer and proctor tests, judge speeches and interviews, evaluate essays and facilitate the Super Quiz Relay,” YUHSD said. “In all, approximately 150 volunteers are needed over the two-day competition to make it a success. Training will be provided to volunteers in whatever role they select.”
To volunteer for the event, call Brenda Higuera at 502-4652.
