For local races, many go unchallenged

Tuesday's primary election was pretty much ho-hum when it comes to local races. Few local candidates faced opposition in the primary.

Three Superior Court judges are running unopposed for re-election. They include: John Paul Plante for judge of Superior Court - Division 2, Larry C. Kenworthy for judge of Superior Court - Division 3; and John Nelson, judge for Superior Court - Division 5.

In the race for clerk of Superior Court, incumbent Jeffrey Mangis ran unopposed on the Democrat ticket while Lynn Fazz was the only Republican candidate and will go on to face each other during the general election.

In the race for Justice of the Peace No. 1, Republican Gregory Stewart, who is a Republican, will face Democrat Marci Rios in the general election. Both ran unopposed for their party nominations.

At midnight with all 42 Yuma County precincts reporting in, incumbent Jorge Lozano was leading challenger Terry Hollis for the Democratic nomination Justice of the Peace #2. Lozano had 1,152 votes for 68.37 percent to Hollis' 530 votes for 31.45 percent.
