Yuma Dist. 1 to discuss BYOD policy

At a Yuma Elementary District 1 meeting Tuesday, Superintendent Darwin Stiffler will speak to the board about Castle Dome Middle School's recently adopted policy: “Bring Your Own Device” or BYOD.

Adopted by the school's parent council and administration earlier this month, it allows students to turn their own personal digital devices into learning tools in the classroom.

However, students must have permission from their parents and a signed Acceptable Use Policy form that details the acceptable and unacceptable use of the items on campus.

Students are not required to provide a digital tool and parents can choose whether or not they want their child to use their device at school. For those students that do not have devices, the campus is expected to receive an order of instructional iPads for classroom use within the next month.

In other meeting news, chief financial officer Kerry Jones will give the monthly budget report and also suggest that the board adopt the Annual Financial Report for 2011-2012 to be submitted to the Arizona Department of Education.

The meeting will be held at the district administration office, 450 6th St., at 5:30 p.m. Visit www.yuma.org to view the meeting agenda.
