Vehicle overturns in canal, kills passenger
Alcohol may have been a factor in a weekend accident that claimed the life of a San Luis, Ariz., man, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office said.
An investigation was continuing Monday into the accident that claimed the life of Diego Heredia, 27, Saturday morning, the sheriff's office said.
The silver 2002 Jeep Cherokee carrying four people was traveling westbound on a dirt road when it failed to negotiate a turn, went off the road and turned over into a canal filled with four feet of water at County 20-1/2 Street near Avenue G-1/2, according to the sheriff's office.
Two other passengers in the rear of the vehicle were treated by Rural/Metro personnel and released without any apparent injuries, the sheriff's office said.
The identity of the driver was not immediately available.
A news release from the sheriff's office said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
