Woman injured in vehicle rollover
An 18-year-old woman was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center with possible internal injuries after being involved in a vehicle rollover Saturday afternoon.
According to the Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department, the woman was driving an Acura Integra in the area of Country 14th Street and Avenue D when the rollover occurred at about 3:08 p.m.
It was unknown what direction the vehicle was traveling in, the speed of the vehicle or whether any other vehicles were involved.
Emergency personnel found the woman, who was wearing her seat belt, suspended upside down inside the vehicle, which was heavily damaged.
To aid in the removal the woman, firefighters with SCFD used “rescue jacks” to stabilize the vehicle.
“They can be locked on to the vehicle's frame, which prevents it from rocking when the firefighters are inside taking the patient out,” said Robby Rodriguez, SCFD public information officer.
It is important to keep a patient immobile to prevent further injuries, Rodriguez added.
The woman was removed through the vehicle's windshield after firefighters took it out.
She was then transported to the hospital.
The cause of the incident is being investigated by the Yuma County Sheriff's Office. No other information was available Saturday.
