Port officers stop alleged meth smuggler

A Mexican national was arrested Monday for allegedly trying to smuggle $237,000 worth of methamphetamine into the country through the San Luis port of entry.

According to Customs and Border Protection, officers referred Jose Fernando Sanchez-Rocha, 25, to the secondary inspection area for a more thorough search of his vehicle.

During that search, a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the rear seat area.

When officers focused their search on that area of the vehicle, they reported finding more than 15 pounds of methamphetamine in the support beam above the rear axle.

The drugs and vehicle were seized. Sanchez-Rocha was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
