Road rage, four taken in custody

Four people were taken into custody for questioning Friday afternoon after a gun was allegedly pulled on a motorist during what Yuma police are calling a fit of "road rage."

According to Sgt. Scott Legros, the incident began at about 3:45 p.m. along 24th Street, near Yuma Regional Medical Center, between the victim and another vehicle with four occupants.

Legros said it is not known yet what led to the confrontation, which not only led to the gun supposedly being drawn, but also a bottle thrown at the victim's car.

After the confrontation, the victim drove to the Yuma Police Department and reported the incident. It is not known if the other vehicle continued to follow the victim.

Legros said an officer leaving the station spotted the suspect vehicle and followed it to the corner of 4th Avenue and 14th Street, where joined by other units, a  "high risk stop" was conducted on the vehicle.

"No one was injured and no damage was caused," Legos said. "As of yet no gun has been found."

As a safety precaution, Fourth Avenue was temporarily closed off to prevent traffic from coming into the area.

The vehicle pulled over in a U-Haul parking lot and officers, with guns drawn, ordered the occupants out of the vehicle one at a time. As each did so they were placed in custody.

The names of the individuals taken into custody has not been released yet and the incident is currently under investigation.
