Nevada man arrested at border on attempted murder warrant

A Nevada man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for attempted murder was apprehended Monday by Customs and Border Protection officers as he tried to enter the country through the pedestrian lane at the U.S. Port of Entry at San Luis, Ariz.

According to CBP spokesman Officer Reginald Smith, Ever Geovany Vivar Jr., 20, was selected for additional questioning and a routine records check.

Smith said it was during that background check that CBP officers discovered that Vivar has an active arrest warrant out of Reno, Nev., where he has been wanted since February for allegedly beating up a 15-year-old.

Vivar was turned over to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office at 5:30 a.m. and booked into the county jail, where he is being held on a $100,000 bond.

YCSO Capt. Eben Bratcher said Vivar will appear in San Luis Justice Court at 1 p.m. Tuesday, where he will be informed of the extradition process back to Nevada.
