Work on county health building almost done
Comments 0Lately, it's hard to stay dry in Yuma County, but work is almost complete on one county building to make sure water stays out.
The work will help repair structural damage due to a design flaw when the building was constructed about 10 years ago.
Local company The Mill Construction Co. was awarded the contract to work on restoration of the Yuma County Health Services building. The Yuma County Board of Supervisors approved the bid of $151,179 in December.
County Administrator Robert Pickels said the work is expected to be completed in the next few weeks.
The problem was water collecting near the base of the building and getting inside the walls, Pickels said.
Pickels said the work is expected to be completed by April 1.
The new design work was also local with the EMC2 Group Architects Planners.
Pickels previously told the Yuma Sun having the work stay local is a good thing.
"With all of the difficulties that all of the local construction industry has had over the last several months, it's a real pleasure for the county to award a project to both a local architecture (firm) and local general contractor," he said.
