Former county worker hopes to return as recorder

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Experience and a desire to provide customer service are why Brenda Wehrle says she is running for the office of Yuma County recorder.

The senior recording officer of First American Title Insurance is running as a Democrat against Republican Robyn Stallworth-Pouquette in the Nov. 4 general election.

The recorder oversees an office responsible for recording land ownership and property-related documents, as well as registering voters.

Wehrle has born and raised in Yuma County. She graduated from Yuma High School in 1974. Although she has never held public office, she has worked as a county employee - in the county treasurer's office.

Wehrle says her prior experience qualifies her for the job.

"My prior experience with the county was at the treasurer's office for nine years, which also works closely with the recorder's office. I have had over 20 years experience in the title field.

"Being the recording officer, I am at the recorder's office on a daily basis. As a title company, we have a good working relationship with the recorder's office and just my knowledge of what is going on there and the procedure that they use, the statutes the state guidelines for recording. ..."

If elected, Wehrle said, her mission will be upgrading the computer system to implement digital recording and providing online document retrieval for the public, while still maintaining high-quality customer service.

She believes technology upgrades will make the office more efficient, freeing up recorder's staff to assist the public more readily.

She said her knowledge, years of experience and desire to serve Yuma County make her the winning candidate.

"I also think my dedication to customer service (is a qualification for the office). In 2006 I was awarded the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce customer service award."
