Corrections: Child abuse stats; bus dispute

The front-page story headlined “Child sexual abuse up 31% in 2012,” published in the Jan. 27 edition, should have said five children a day die in this country due to child abuse.

The story headlined “ADOT helps YCIPTA, Douglas resolve rift,” published in the Jan. 30 edition, should have said the dispute was between the Yuma County Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority and Arizona Department of Transportation. Transit director John Andoh said ADOT disputed YCIPTA's response to Douglas in regards to maintenance reports over leased buses. He said the city complied with the report submission after conversations with the city manager.

The story should have said that YCIPTA will seek compensation for repairs only if necessary. In addition, if the buses are transferred to ADOT's control for use by the city, the YCIPTA board and Federal Transit Administration have to approve the request and ADOT has to accept the buses. Once all of the approvals are received, YCIPTA will no longer be liable for the buses, Andoh said.

The Yuma Sun regrets the errors.
