A Yuma man was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident in San Luis, Ariz., that claimed the life of a 5-year-old boy.
The boy, identified by Desert Valley Mortuary as Christian Adriel Cortez, was hit by a white Nissan truck Saturday night when he ran into a street to chase a ball he had just kicked, San Luis police said.
The driver of the truck, identified as Anthony Oswaldo Aguirre, 28, allegedly drove away after the accident and was arrested later in the night when he returned to the scene, police said.
Police spokesman Sgt. Ernesto Lugo said Aguirre was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of the accident, while the case remains under investigation.
The boy was rushed to Yuma Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, where he died Sunday, police said.
