A mentally-ill man was booked into the Yuma County Adult Detention Facility Friday after allegedly threatening people with a hand grenade.
According to the Yuma Police Department, officers responded to a report of the man walking south on Virginia Drive at 7:29 a.m.
YPD said officers came into contact with the suspect, John Dresden, 54 of Yuma, near the corner of 27th Street and Virginia Drive and were able to take him into custody without incident,
According to YPD, officers located a jacket that belonged to Dresden in the backyard of 2800 S. Madison Avenue.
YPD said as a precaution, the area was evacuated and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit from the Yuma County Sheriff's Office was deployed to the location.
According to YPD, the disposal unit was then able to determine there were no explosive devices.
YPD said Dresden was determined to be mentally-ill and is now being charged with misconduct involving simulated explosives, disorderly conduct and threats.
The case is under investigation at this time.
