Man drowns in canal

A man drowned in a Yuma canal Saturday, according to a news release from the Yuma Police Department.

Members of the Yuma Fire Department and YPD dive teams found the body of Guy Richard Burns, 48, in the Salinity Canal, according to the release.

Officers responded to the 4th Avenue Bridge in the 100 block of North 4th Avenue at about 2:44 p.m. Saturday. According to the release, YFD also deployed a Zodiac boat to help YPD divers in the search.

Burns' body was found at 7:05 p.m. between the first two bridge pylons of the 4th Avenue Bridge over the canal. He was in about 12 feet of water.

The circumstances of Burns' going into the water are still being investigated, according to the release.

YPD encourages anyone with information about the case to call YPD at 783-4421, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
