Napolitano signs bill in Yuma

Gov. Janet Napolitano came to Yuma Friday and signed HB 2193 into law, a bill introduced by Yuma County will now remove any requirement that a county publish the minutes of proceedings in the official newspaper of the county.

"This is one of those bills that when you read it you think, what's the big deal?" Napolitano said at the ceremony. "But if you actually work in counties or county government you realize that this is going to save a lot of money over time.

"It was a change that was long due and and how appropriate that it came from your own clerk."

The new law allows a record of the proceedings of a county board of supervisors meeting to be available to the public online - the same manner as that of the governing board of a city or town.

Also, Napolitano awarded the pen used to sign the bill to Sue Stallworth, clerk of the Yuma County Board of Supervisors.

Napolitano said that it was Stallworth's persistence and contribution that got the bill started.

"I'm very honored, thank you very much," Stallworth said.
