Naturalists to present 'Snakes and Skulls'

  Chuck and Betty Mulcahy, volunteer naturalists for the Imperial Wildlife Refuge, will be at the Heritage Branch Library, 350 S. 3rd Ave., Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. to present "Snakes and Skulls," a narrative slideshow about desert wildlife.

  If you require special accommodations, call the library at 782-1871 at least 72 hours before the program.

Volunteers needed

  The Western Arizona Council of Government's Area Agency on Aging is seeking volunteers to serve as escorts taking plart in the 18th annual Wal-Mart Christmas Shopping Day on Dec. 5.

  Residents of local nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adults who attend Daybreak Adult Center, clients from Services Maximizing Independent Living and Empowerment (S.M.I.L.E.) and the Yuma WORC Center will be assisted as they do their holiday shopping in the Wal-Mart, 2900 S. Pacific Ave.

  Volunteers are needed to help them with their shopping from 9 a.m. to noon.

  People interested in volunteering should call Alma Clark at 217-7158 before Dec. 1.

Foster grandparents needed

  Men and women 60 years and older are needed as volunteer foster grandparents in the Yuma area for special needs children and youths.

  Volunteers in the Western Arizona Council of Governments Foster Grandparents Program provide extra care and attention to children and youth to improve their physical, mental, emotional and social development .

  Foster grandparents serve children in school, day care and Head Start settings.

  Volunteers earn a tax-free stipend of $2.65 an hour, a meal provided during volunteering times, annual physical examination, transportation reimbursement, and accident and liability insurance while volunteering.

  To be eligible, volunteers must be 60 or older, meet the monthly income guidelines of 125 percent of the poverty level and pass a fingerprint background check and physical.

Optimists sell candy

  The Optimist Club of Yuma is taking pre-orders for See's Candy, available in Christmas wrap.

  Sales proceeds go for Optimists' youth programs in Yuma.

  Candy deliveries will be Dec. 1-24  Call Joe Willen at 783-5170 with orders.

  The Optimists will also sell candy from a booth at Mervyn's Center, 475 W. 32nd St., Nov. 24 through Dec. 24.
