City Report 11-22

The Yuma Police Department, Yuma Fire Department and Yuma Parks and Recreation Department respond each week to a variety of calls for service.

Here's a by-the-numbers look at recent activity in Yuma.

Yuma Fire Department

For the week of Nov. 8-14, Yuma Fire Department responded to 208 emergency calls for service, which included:
 •  7 commercial assignments, including a stove fire in an apartment caused by unattended cooking in which a smoke alarm alerted occupants and the sprinkler system extinguished the fire, a water leak at a business, an overheated air conditioner motor and various alarms
 •  23 motor vehicle crashes with one involving a pedestrian, two involving a bicycle and one involving a motorcycle
 •  157 other medical emergencies (serious to minor), including six for difficulty breathing, 16 for chest pain, 22 fall victims, two unconscious people, three seizure cases, eight diabetic emergencies, two possible strokes, one allergic reaction, 19 patients with mental problems, and miscellaneous other illnesses and injuries
 •  21 special duty, public assistance and residential assignments that included a plastic cup that had fallen onto the heating element inside of a dishwasher creating smoke, a fire in a laundry room at a residence, a palm tree fire that spread to the roof of a residence, a gas line that was accidentally cut in the front yard of a residence, a Dumpster fire, a gasoline smell in an area, two calls for unauthorized burning of yard debris and various alarms
 
Yuma Police Department

For the week of Nov. 2-8, Yuma Police Department responded to an average of 160 calls per day. During this week YPD:
 •  Responded to 1,122 calls for service
 •  Documented 222 police reports
 •  Responded to 44 noninjury accidents
 •  Responded to 16 injury accidents
  Significant incidents and community events include:
 •  On Nov. 4, a 22-year-old male was arrested for alleged forgery and sexual conduct with a minor after it was discovered he had been fraudulently attending Kofa High School.
 •  On Nov. 5, a 17-year-old male was arrested for alleged possession of dangerous drugs for sale, misconduct with weapons and participation in a criminal street gang. He remains under investigation in two attempted homicides.
 • On Nov. 8, an adult male was arrested for alleged continuous sexual abuse, molestation of a child and sexual conduct with a minor.

Parks and Recreation Department

For the week of Nov. 11-17, in the Yuma Parks and Recreation Department:
 •  The Graffiti Crew responded to and cleaned up 30 incidents of graffiti
 •  27 events were held at the Yuma Civic Center with 2,067 people attending those events
 •  55 games were played at city athletic facilities
 •  The Yuma Art Center hosted three events with total attendance of 618
 •  94 ramadas, parks and fields were rented for special events
 •  10 programs were offered through the city's recreation program, with 1,520 members of the Yuma community participating
