Yuma Sun Open House Event offers a peek inside homes

An open house gives homes for sale more exposure and prospective buyers — and even those who are on the fence — a chance to see the inventory available in Yuma.

Local real estate brokers and agents hope that prospective buyers who walk through the homes will fall in love with a home.

It's a win-win situation. Sellers, buyers and the real estate market will benefit from the first Yuma Sun Open House Event on Saturday.

Lisa Reilly, Yuma Sun advertising director, noted the time is right to buy a home since prices are at an all time low. She pointed out the Open House Event is open to everyone.

“It's not only for people interested in buying a new home, but people thinking about buying a new home. You might not even know you want to buy a house.”

Sixteen homeowners will open their doors for the event, hoping their homes catch the eye of a prospective buyer.

“It's a great way to spend an afternoon in Yuma. You can meet Realtors, look at houses and see what's available,” said Judy McCrory, broker of Century 21 Action Group.

The event, sponsored by Karen Spencer and Associates and Century 21 Action Group, will kick off at the Yuma Sun booth at the Yuma Community Food Bank's Farmers Market at the Yuma Palms Regional Center.

Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., people will be able to pick up punch cards and maps showing the location of the participating homes, which will be clearly marked. The homes will remain open between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The cards will be punched at each home. When a card is punched 10 times, a participant may leave it at the last home and they will be entered into a drawing for several prizes. The Yuma Sun will contact the winners the following week.

Several companies related to the real estate industry, such as Nova Home Loans and Chicago Title Insurance Company Yuma Title Division, will be on hand to answer questions.

“They'll be talking with people interested in their services,” said Joni Brooks, publisher of the Yuma Sun.

She suggested people who aren't sure if they qualify for a mortgage talk to Nova Home Loans. “See what it takes to get mortgage these days and what you can do to qualify for one.”

“This is a good time to buy,” Brooks added.
