Yuma man arrested in weekend hit and run
A Yuma man appeared in court Thursday for his alleged role in a hit-and-run accident.
Yuma police found parts of what appeared to be an orange-colored vehicle in the area of a hit-and-run collision Saturday that injured pedestrian Tobias Duvall, 40.
On Wednesday, Yuma police arrested 23-year-old Vincente Nuñez-Dominguez Jr., of Yuma, after they found him painting and repairing his black and orange 2007 Honda Civic in the area of 19th Place and Magnolia Avenue.
Nuñez-Dominguez made his initial appearance Thursday afternoon in Yuma Justice Court before Justice of the Peace Greg Stewart, who informed him he had been arrested on a felony charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident, tampering with physical evidence and endangerment.
Stewart also told Nuñez-Dominguez he would return to court Tuesday for his arraignment. “It is at that time I will know if a formal complaint has been filed by prosecutors,” Stewart said.
Stewart also set Nuñez-Dominguez's bond at $50,000.
Sgt. Clint Norred, a spokesman for the Yuma Police Department, said an anonymous call to 78-CRIME led police to Nuñez-Dominguez. He added that the subsequent investigation connected Nuñez-Dominguez and the vehicle as being involved in Saturday's hit-and-run.
The collision happened in the 100 block of East 16th Street. Duvall, who remains at Yuma Regional Medical Center in fair condition, suffered head and torso injuries similar to someone being hit by a vehicle.
Norred said the vehicle was seized and Nuñez-Dominguez arrested. He was booked into the Yuma County jail on three felony offenses: leaving the scene of an injury accident, endangerment and tampering with evidence.
Yuma police ask that anyone with information about this investigation call Master Police Officer Mike Anderson at 373-4700, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
