Drive-bys at Yuma bar Sunday
Two men are facing multiple charges of attempted murder after alleged back-to-back drive-by shootings at a Yuma bar early Sunday.
Cesar Covarrubias, 21, and Alex Renteria, 20, were arrested in connection with the shootings at Fat Harvey’s, 303 W. 26th St.
According to Yuma police, officers responded to the bar on a call of shots fired at about 1:35 a.m. Police said the occupants of a car fired several shots into the air while making claim to a local street gang, then left the area.
The car returned about a minute later, and the passengers fired more shots at a group of people, injuring one.
The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was hit by what may have been a ricocheting fragment. Her injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
Covarrubias and Renteria made their initial appearance in weekend court on Sunday and were told they had been arrested on charges of six counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of drive by shooting. They are being held without bond and will be arraigned in Yuma Country Justice Court on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Anybody with information about the case can call the Yuma Police Department’s Gang Enforcement Unit at 373-4700, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
