Yuma Jaycees set for Christmas Lighting contest

The Yuma Jaycees encourage area residents to participate in the 66th Annual Christmas Lighting contest.

“This is an annual event the Jaycees look forward to during the holidays,” said Peggy Collins, Yuma Jaycees life member.

“It's a time for the Jaycees to get together with our children, and make a family event out of going to judge the lights. We do this contest to get the community involved in a fun thing for Christmas. It's been a Yuma Jaycees tradition for 66 years.”

Residents living in the Yuma or Foothills who decorate their homes with light displays, and who are not members of the Yuma Jaycees, can participate.

“People work hard on their displays and entering our contest gets more people out to look at their hard work,” Collins said.

There are three categories in the contest. The first includes RVs, motor homes, mobile homes and manufactured homes, the second includes site build homes, and the third includes business and industrial buildings.

There is no fee to enter. Entries can be mailed to P.O. Box 2797, Yuma, AZ, 85366.

All entries must be received by Dec. 18.

Judging will be held on Dec. 19 and 20.
