Suspected intruders chased off by warning shots charged with burglary

Felony complaints were filed Wednesday in Yuma Justice Court against the two men who allegedly broke into a Yuma home over the weekend, only to be chased away by the homeowner who fired several warning shots into the ground.

Rigoberto Quiroga, 26, and Jesus Arbizo, 28, both of Yuma, were arraigned in brief court hearings before Yuma Justice of the Peace pro-tem Yolonda Torok. Each man was charged with one felony count of burglary.

While Arbizo remains in jail on a $64,137 bond, Quiroga has since posted bail, which had previously been set at the same amount, and is out of custody.

Torok then set each man's next court dates, which are preliminary hearings, with Arbizo's being scheduled at 4 p.m. on Jan. 28 and Quiroga's at 4 p.m. on Feb. 8. She also transferred their cases to the conflict administrator's office to appoint attorneys to represent them.

According to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, Quiroga and Arbizo allegedly had forced their way into a home on the 2300 block of East 15th Street at about 3:18 a.m. Sunday.

The resident of the home encountered the two men, who had reportedly broken in through a window, and they ran out the front door. The resident followed, armed with a gun, and fired several warning shots into the ground as the two fled.

Deputies later found the two suspects hiding outside of a nearby apartment complex and took them into custody.

Quiroga and Arbizo were both booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on charges of criminal trespassing and burglary.
