Yuma police looking for witnesses of fatal accident
Yuma police are looking for additional witnesses to a fatal accident in which a pedestrian was killed, in hopes of being able to talk to the driver of a white or light-color 1990s Toyota Previa van who was traveling behind the vehicle that struck the pedestrian.
According to Sgt. Leanne Worthen, a spokesperson for the Yuma Police Department, officers responded to the area of the 400 block West 24th Street at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday night.
Worthen said the investigation into the accident determined that John Lawson, 80, of Yuma, was crossing to the south side the street when he was struck by a grey Toyota Corolla driven by 25-year-old Neethu Mattew, who was eastbound on 24th Street.
Lawson was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Mattew stopped at the scene.
YPD asks any witness to the collision to call Accident Investigator Clay Lawson at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
