Burglary suspect caught after chase facing multiple charges
The burglary suspect arrested following a multi-agency chase that zigzagged from Yuma, to the Andrade, Calif., port of entry and back into Yuma again will return to court on Wednesday to find out if a criminal complaint has been filed against him.
Martin Ramirez Saucedo, 42, of Calexico, is scheduled to appear in Yuma Justice Court at 1 p.m. before Justice of the Peace Greg Stewart, who will inform him at that time what charges, if any, prosecutors have decided to charge him with.
Saucedo is in the Yuma County jail on allegations of burglary, theft, possession of burglary tools, unlawful flight from law enforcement, criminal damage and trafficking in stolen property. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
According to the Yuma Police Department, the chase started at 11:06 a.m. Monday when a Yuma Police officer attempted to pull over Saucedo while in the 1900 block of West 8th Street. Saucedo reportedly fled into California via the 4th Avenue Bridge, turned onto Interstate 8 and made for the Algodones exit, now with the California Highway Patrol in pursuit.
Authorities at the Andrade port were ready, so Saucedo reportedly reversed course and returned to Yuma the way he came, now with the CHP, the Imperial County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Border Patrol behind him. Yuma Police officers picked up the pursuit and followed Saucedo until 11:24 a.m., when he crashed his pickup truck into a telephone pole at 1st Street and Avenue B.
Stolen property was visible in the cab of the pickup, YPD said, and a search warrant was later served to recover additional items and evidence from the truck.
Saucedo was treated and released from Yuma Regional Medical Center for injuries received in the crash and was later booked into the Yuma County jail.
