Winter visitors to be celebrated Wednesday
As spring draws nearer, Yuma and the Yuma Sun would like to give another round of applause to the many winter visitors that make their seasonal home here.
The Winter Visitor Thank You Party will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesday to celebrate the part-time residents that come from the snowy climes to enjoy Yuma's abundant sunshine and mild days. The fiesta takes place at the Yuma County Fairgrounds, 2520 E. 32nd St. Admission is free.
The first 500 people through the gate will be treated to a free ice cream cone and a T-shirt or hat. There will also be complimentary coffee and donuts. Come in through the 32nd Street entrance to get the goodies.
The Yuma Sun is producing the event. Sun marketing manager Adrianne Wagner said this day is to let winter visitors know how much they're appreciated and she encourages them to come out for the festivities.
A videographer will be on hand to record fun short interviews with attendees. Another highlight of the gathering is the giant map of the United States and Canada, where visitors can place a sticker on the state or province they call home when they're not in Yuma.
This is the first year for a send-off party. It complements the Winter Visitor Welcome Back Bash held in December, another Yuma Sun production that has been an annual event for about 15 years.
The event sponsor for the party is Aiello Eye Institute. There will be several businesses and food vendors in attendance as well.
