Windows smashed at 2 Yuma businesses

Yuma police have arrested a man suspected of breaking glass windows at two businesses as he walked along 8th Street.

According to Officer Cruz Vidal, a spokeswoman for the Yuma Police Department, at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday, police received a report that an unknown person had broken a window on the north side of the building at Elvira's Bakery, 713 W. 8th St.

About 20 minutes later, officers arrested 21-year-old Charles Denard in the 400 block of South 4th Avenue. He was booked into the Yuma County jail on two counts of criminal damage and released from custody Monday afternoon.

Denard is also suspected of breaking a window at Penn Signs, 707 W. 8th St.

Vidal said Denard, who had abrasions at the time of his arrest, is believed to have punched or elbowed the windows at the businesses, causing them to break.

Damage to the two businesses is estimated at a combined $1,100, with $600 to replace the window at Elvira's Bakery and $500 for the window at Penn Signs.
