Nominations for education hall of fame due Friday
To recognize and honor some of Yuma's greatest educators, nominations are being accepted until Friday for the Yuma Education Foundation's Hall of Fame.
Categories include Professional Educator Award, Frances Woodard Award, Estelle Dingus Award, Outstanding Organization Contributing to Yuma County and the Special Achievement Award.
A nomination letter must explain why the person is deserving of the honor and submitted electronically at http://tinyurl.com/yumaedhalloffame. They are due by noon Friday.
The inductees will be announced and honored at the Teacher of the Year Banquet on April 23 at the Yuma Civic Center.
For the Professional Educator Award, eligibility begins three years after completion of service as a professional educator in Yuma County. The award honors the historical significance of the individual's contribution in teaching, and consideration is given to the lasting impact or contribution of the individual.
The Frances Woodard Award honors an individual educated in Yuma who has made a significant impact in Yuma County.
The Estelle Dingus Award honors an individual educated in Yuma County who has made a significant impact outside of Yuma County.
For the Outstanding Organization Contributing to Yuma County, documentation of service is necessary. Areas of consideration include the years over which the service was given and the quality of educational contribution made to Yuma County. The Special Achievement Award is for a person clearly standing above his or her colleagues.
