Yumans selected as Republican delegates

Four Yumans have been selected to represent Arizona Republicans at the Republican Party's National Convention in September, according to a news release from the Yuma County Republican Party.

Cindy Baker and C.R. Waters were elected as delegates, and Sunita Krishna and Karen Fritz as alternate delegates at the state Republican convention last week.

Baker works for the Gowan Group of Companies as president of Exigent, which handles the regulatory and government affairs for all the Gowan companies. She is also a member of the Crane Elementary School District governing board. She serves as the crop protection manufacturer on the U.S. Delegation to CODEX and as a member of the Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee in Washington, D.C.

Waters is the farm manager for Duda Farm Fresh Foods. He is a member of the Yuma School District 1 governing board, the board of directors of the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association and the board of directors of the Yuma Chamber of Commerce.

Fritz, the county treasurer, is a Yuma native and graduate of Yuma High School. She attended the University of Arizona majoring in accounting.

After working in accounting in the private sector, Fritz ran for treasurer in 1992. She is serving her fourth and final term in the post. A lifelong Republican, she has also served as a precinct committeeman since 1993.

Krishna was raised in Yuma and graduated from Yuma High School in 1998. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona in 2002. After college, she worked in Washington, D.C., first for U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, then for the Senate Commerce Committee chaired by Arizona Sen. John McCain.

She also earned a master's degree in government from Johns Hopkins University in 2005 and served as a White House legal intern during the spring of 2007. She is a graduate of the UA College Of Law and will be joining the law firm of Jennings, Strouss and Salmon this fall.

As delegates, Baker and Waters will cast the votes that actually determine their party's nominee, based on the results of Arizona's primary. McCain has secured more than enough primary wins to earn it but has not been formally chosen.

The convention is in Minneapolis in September.
