Can slow down slide to disaster

I came across this in a 1938 magazine article about President Roosevelt’s New Deal, which said he "...has put us more than $30 billion in debt, with virtually nothing to show for it."

Ah, for the good old days when politicians were so thrifty that they could buy nothing for less than a trillion dollars.

At least we can slow down our current slide into economic disaster, or maybe even reverse it, by voting for Romney and Ryan.
