No longer a Grinch
I am proud of a lie I’ve been telling for years.
Well, it only recently became a lie.
"I don’t like kids."
I remember the first time, not long ago, when I spoke that well worn line and heard it ring false. My own words betrayed me, revealing an undiscovered change of heart.
Believe me, for years I kept my distance from kids and their squeaky, sticky ways. But then friends began having kids, and I loved witnessing the joys of raising little ones.
My recent trip to see a dear friend’s family seems to have sealed the deal. Spending time with his kids fed a part of my soul that I didn’t even know could hunger.
I always thought kids needed to grow up to be tolerated. It turns out that I did – and I have.
Now, I’m off to check out some photos of little angels decorating their Christmas tree.
