Additional Yuma isn't really news

July 22, 2008 - 7:05 PM

I saw the article in The Sun on July 13 about the "other Yuma" and my immediate thought was "gee, what else is new?" I visited Yuma, Colo. when I was a high school student in August of 1965. Everyone, at least the friends I had in high school, knew about Yuma, Colo. Over the years, I have also been to Yuma, Tenn. and Yuma, Va. I offer the following information from my Place Finder (listed by city, county, and state): Yuma, Yuma, Arizona; Yuma, Yuma, Colorado; Yuma, Cloud, Kansas; Yuma, Taylor, Kentucky; Yuma, Wexford, Michigan; Yuma, Carroll, Tennessee; Yuma, Scott, Virginia; Yuma (historical) Prairie, Arkansas; Yuma View (subdivision), Salt Lake, Utah; and Yuma (historical), Butte, California.

If one puts in "Yuma" on a computer search, several Yumas will pop up. When I was in high school, I was told that there was also a Yuma, Conn. I wrote to Yuma, Va. asking for the origin of its name but no one knew. There is not much to Yuma, Tenn. At least there wasn't when I visited it.

But, the fact that there is a Yuma, Colo., should not be news to anyone who has lived in Yuma any length of time.
