Being assessed out of my home
Comments 0 | Recommend 0I did some math and these are the figures I came up with. I 2003 my property taxes were $353.39 on an assessed value $144,852. In 2007 my taxes were $4238.82 on an assessed value $446,502.
I built a home in Yuma after moving from California so I would be able to live my retirement years in the comfort of my own home (I'm 76 years old).
By using my calculations for the cost to create and operate this proposed new fire department for the Foothills area, my cost for this fire department would be $932.54, using my 2007 tax assessments.
The county is assessing me out of my home by increasing the value of the property at approximately 90 percent per year. Do we need another tax increase for the proposed fire department?
I'm struggling to stay on top of my retirement cost, due to property tax increases.
Seniors are pushed to live in low classed assessed valued homes to survive or in lower assessed areas. Is this the American Dream? It's time to use common sense on endless spending, and start spending where necessary, not to glorify personal ambition for a few.
I would like The Sun to research and post the actual cost for this proposed fire district and fire department. The usual low cost estimate comes in with overrides, inflation and excuses for final actual costs on bad estimates.
Also after checking, the average homes in Foothills cost far more than $210,000. Property values are considered one way... and that's "location, location, location" and sales.
My motto is ...if it's not broken, don't fix it.
I'm looking forward to The Sun's research on the actual cost before signing petitions on this issue.
