Baby boomers economic woes ignored by campaigns?
I read the other day that baby boomers feel their economic woes have been ignored by the presidential campaigns.
It reminded me that boomers – the generation of which I am part – were particularly hard hit in the recession. Other generations also suffered, but the consequences were graver for boomers.
A person in their fifties or older who loses a job has a more difficult time getting a new one in many cases, especially a good paying one that reflects the skills acquired over many years of work.
Similarly, a boomer who takes a big hit in their investment portfolio intended to support their retirement – as many did – have little time to build it up again to use it to support their old age needs.
The presidential candidates may be avoiding the issue because there probably isn't a lot that can be done about it, except to empathize with the boomers.
