After cannon incident, what's next?

I had to laugh last week when I read drug smugglers used a pneumatic cannon to hurl marijuana over the border fence and into a farm field near San Luis, Ariz.

The Border Patrol said the pot — packaged in 33 cans that were propelled, one by one, by compressed gas — weighed a total of 85 pounds and was valued at more than $42,000.

The cans were seized by the patrol and destroyed. In any case, shooting marijuana willy-nilly over a wall and into another country doesn't sound like an effective way to move drugs.

Still, the incident shows how the potential profits of drugs will push traffickers to any lengths.

Let's see, in the Yuma area they've burrowed under the border to bring their product north, they've tried to drive onto ramps and over the border fence, and they've dropped pot from an ultralight aircraft into the United States.

What will they think of next?
