Neighbor armed with broom stops break-in

A woman who stops burglars with her broom? Now that's a gutsy woman, and a pretty nice neighbor, too.

According to news reports, the New Hampshire woman noticed two intruders breaking into her neighbor's home. She reportedly armed herself with the broom and confronted the suspects.

“It made me so angry that they broke into her house, so I just picked up the broom and I kept saying, ‘Don't go anywhere, stay where you are, I got you covered,'” Katherine Reader said.

The alleged burglars tried to flee, but they got stuck in a snow bank and couldn't get away. They were arrested.

Now, police would probably discourage citizens from confronting burglars. They would probably prefer citizens call police and let them handle the situation.

But this woman's courage and loyalty to her neighbors made me smile. In a time when we might not know our neighbors, it's nice to read about neighbors who still look out for each other.
