Spay/Neuter events were huge success

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Humane Society of Yuma, in conjunction with Planned Pethood, spayed/neutered over 300 companion dogs and cats and 60 feral cats in two large no cost or low cost spay and neuter events.

One event was targeted for citizens of Yuma County who could not otherwise afford to have their pet altered while the other event was for people who wished to have a feral cat altered to avoid further population growth of feral cats on their property.

These events would not have been possible without the help of many community members, including Planned Pethood, Arizona West Veterinary Clinic and numerous volunteers.

There are a few people I would like to point who were instrumental in making this event a success: Dr. Kim Hayes with Arizona Animal Welfare League, Sonia Hernandez with Arizona Defense League of Arizona and Kiersten Kern who made the three hour trip from Phoenix to assist us in our clinic. Special thanks to Drs. Kristy Greene, Lisa McElroy, and Jamee Black from Desert Veterinary Clinic and Drs. Laura Milikan and Ann Carvell who donated all their time to our events.

As always, Dr. Haugo continues to go above and beyond whenever is needed for the animals in this community. We could never repay her for the amount of time she has spent tending to them.

Also, thank you to the technicians and staff from Desert Veterinary Clinic, Arizona West Veterinary Clinic, Rio Colorado Equine Center and All Creatures Mobile Veterinary Clinic for bringing your expertise to our event to assist the doctors in performing great medicine and ensuring the safety of all the pets that entered.

Feline Friends, with help from several businesses, assisted in keeping all these volunteers fed.

Thanks to Albertsons, Fry’s Food Stores, Chilie Pepper, Ronnie’s Pizza, Starbucks, Papa San’s, Lenore Anaya and Veronica Shea, Celia Carlon, Sellers Crane Service and Jay and Sam Fritcher for donating food, drinks and services.

Also, a special thank you to Fort Yuma Rotary members, Yuma Kids Choir, HSOY and Planned Pethood volunteers.

Thank you all for your service to the animals in our community, the Humane Society of Yuma and Planned Pethood could not have held these events without such great volunteers and donations.
