A "eew" moment

I had a little bit of an “eew” moment while reading an ABC News report, which included this quote: “Cell phones are 10 times as dirty as a toilet seat.” Yuck.

The quote, which came from Chuck Gerba, a professor at the University of Arizona, was meant to drive home the importance of cleaning your cell phone during the cold and flu season. The article has a valid point. Many people take their phones everywhere — even the bathroom (again, eew), a traditional stronghold for a variety of germs.

This problem is likely much worse for parents who hand off their phones to their children to keep them occupied. Little kids tend to be walking petri dishes — and now just imagine those little petri dish paws, covered in germs, handling your cell phone, which you later hold up to your face ....

So word to the wise: Give your cell phone a nice wipe down periodically. Your immune system will thank you!
