City leaders should volunteer to help
Our family has volunteered for the Humane Society of Yuma in numerous capacities for the last 12 years. We could not believe that the City of Yuma had the audacity to ask for volunteers to help it out in fulfilling the animal control obligations to the city residents.
After the comments and actions taken by the mayor, city council and the city administrator concerning the renewal of the Humane Society's animal control contract, I would hope that they would be the first to volunteer!
Obviously, the statements made by the mayor and the city administrator concerning the cost of providing this service were based on either misinformation or just stupidity on their parts. Not only have they cost the city's residents approximately an additional $250,000, but they now know that the city never could provide the level of service that the Humane Society provided for years.
With this kind of leadership, I can imagine that the city will be asking for volunteers to assist in providing help for the ambulance service.
