Crossing paths with some interesting people

Sure you're crossing the country on foot, but are you pogoing for peace or hopscotching for happiness? Do you have an extra angle?

We in the news biz are spoiled by the number of interesting visionaries hoofing it (and peddling) across the country – and passing through Yuma. It's especially true this time of year, making it almost an odd season of sorts.

This month alone I've come across two people cycling between California and Florida.

I joke that it's gotten where just biking from Malibu to Miami isn't enough. Are you doing it backward? Is there a disease involved?

My favorite was a guy who walked from Los Angeles to Brazil. (Yes, he did make it, and that's pretty cool.)

I interviewed my first wanderer years ago in South Dakota. He called himself Earthwalker and pledged silence until there was peace on earth. He scribbled his answers on a note pad.
