Why isn't school funding available from government?
Comments 0 | Recommend 0I am a concerned parent that has a couple of opinions and complaints about what is going on with our schools next year.
I am trying to understand how our government can't seem to find money for the schools but they have money for all these other projects going on.
The federal government has given more than $3 million in grants to the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area this year to continue restoration of the Yuma East Wetlands but they do not seem to have any funds to support our schools.
Don't get me wrong.
I support the Yuma East Wetlands but right now our teachers are at risk of losing their jobs, classrooms are going to be overcrowded with students and schools are losing their safety crossing guards who make sure our children arrive to school safely through the outrageous traffic and construction that is going on with 24th Street and Araby Road.
I can't believe that our schools are at the bottom of the budget list and that there is not one person or persons, company or companies that have children that attend school and are just going to sit back and let all this happen.
It takes more that one person writing a letter but I am hoping that it will be start.
There are only so many fundraisers and bake sales that these poor children can have. Now the money that they wanted to save for school field trips will have to be used to make sure that they get to and from school safely.
It should not be the children's responsibility or the PTO to have to raise funds to pay the wages of a most needed person who should be held to the highest level of respect simply for the fact that they could be watching your child crossing the street and it may one day be your child they save!
