New standards for development?
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Has anyone paid attention to the so-called "development" of Martinez Lake Resort? It’s unbelievable that our county leadership would allow such a project like this in today’s world. The development appears to be setting new standards, puts Yuma County and its residents in harm's way and opens the door for liability lawsuits for years to come.
Don’t just read this letter, take a drive out to the lake and see for yourself. You won’t believe your eyes. Lots for site built homes as small as 1,000 to 2,000 square feet, roads so narrow that two cars can’t pass, roads that end with no cul-de-sac to turn around, storm water run-off directed straight into our Colorado River, no water retention plan which will allow all the contaminates from roof tops, asphalt roads and whatever else one can imagine into our water ways. Look at the deficient street lighting.
The list goes on and on. If this is allowed for this project, we all should be able to build to these "new codes."
Ask the Sheriff's Office if it is going to enforce no on-street parking to allow cars to pass. I think not. Ask Rural/Metro if they think these roads are adequate for the safety of their personnel and their ability to perform their duty. I would like them to say yes on the record giving them some of the liability as well.
Yuma Proving Ground is almost always the first responder to an emergency and fire at the lake. Ask them if they’d take their equipment into this one-way, no exit situation. I don’t think so.
It’s said that Yuma County is going to set up an improvement district to maintain this mess that is being developed. I’m told Yuma County would not accept any new roads and developments unless they were built to code. Remember how and when the Foothills was developed, it was just so far out there that Yuma County kind of just let it happen - now look at the mess we have in some areas out there.
Wake up, residents of Yuma County, let's hold our Board of Supervisors and elected officials accountable - look at their records and remember to vote in November.
